when we thought..

was feeding Eili dinner at around 8.30pm when i heard a loud popping sound, almost similiar to someone lighting a firecracker. I was wondering why is the sound so loud and yet near to where i'm sitting. Seconds later i saw a whole row of my hall tiles popped up and cracked.

Hub's 1st reaction is "could it be another earthquake from indonesia??" and we left our house immediately for safety, just in case. We went to our neighbour's house and asked if they felt any tremors or any problems with their tiles. They didn't feel any tremors and their tiles are ok.

Apparently, there's no earthquake in our neighbouring country and problem could lie with our flooring. Weird thing is we have stayed in our flat for 4 years already and no such incident had happen before!

Our neighbour helped us to contact the HDB personnel and they'll come to our house tomorrow to investigate the cause. My question is : could it be the cause of poor workmanship or the contraction of the tiles since the weather has turned cold?? FYI My unit is facing the open sea. Whatever the cause is, we are going to be houseless for at least a week as the contractor will need to hack the tiles for the hall and put in new tiles - FOC of course!! Which means i have to pack a big luggage with eili's uniforms and my working clothings!!

But who is going to pay for my inconveniences like putting up at my sister's and sending Eili to school and going to work for at least 5 days? DAMN SUAY AH!!!

I'm going to turn half vegetarian

I am turning half vegetarian this week all for the sake of trimming my waist. Usually i don't go for salad for dinner but the last straw came when i can't fit in 3 working pants during last week's wedding dinner.
Already are running late for dinner and yet the button on my pants are ready to gave way. I know some of my colleagues are half joking betting that i won't last for even a week for this "salad for dinner" regime. I'll show them I CAN DO IT!!! YES I CAN!!! I'm a taurean and i'm strong and stubborn. Hahaha..but once a while, my evil mind will flash slides of chocolate muffin or fried chicken wings. That's my biggest weakness.
I will conquer the evil side and shed at least 2 kgs onward. My DO LIST:
  • Salad for dinner
  • 2 visits to gym once a week
  • No late night snacking
  • 1 cup of water at night
  • NO MORE snacking in office (the most difficult :S)
  • Cut down on chocolate/sweet drinks (most easy)

Target: 2 weeks

Don't my salad look fab delicious??? I'm not suppose to add salty food but since i'm left 2 slices of ham..ahh..just this time....I'll post my recipe for this soon, check out my food blog then.

A entry about FOOD

Food that i have attempted to cook this month, particularly after the busy festival of Hari Raya. Now normal life is slowly falling back and i'm getting back to my "cook every alt day" schedule. I didn't put these under my food blog as the soup base are not done from scratch, didn't want to cheat mah.
Noodle of the Month - UDON. All of us are so in luv with the smooth, thick and qq texture of this noodle. Be it soup or fried, oh i just cooked Black Pepper Udon today, will post the recipe up soon.
Need to prove more??? She finished the whole bowl!!
Ketupat which i faithfully boiled for 1.5 hours

This chilli is suppose to be watery with black sauce but i overblend it when i'm busy flipping the potato patties. Haha..

The soup base. Instant one lah...hahhaa..next time i'll try to do from scratch ok.

The garnishees

What is Soto Ayam without begedil right?? Can't find any instant begedil so i make these at the eleventh hour. Not bad huh???

The end product...are you hungry now????

Happy BOSSES' Day!

This year i decided not to bring my boss for expensive lunch and the akward moment of silence in between the expensive lunch. I thought why not get him some creative cupcakes for him and i can finally have the chance to savour the delicious looking cuppies from HoneyTar? You can get her link at the right hand side.
1 stone kill 2 birds. WOOHOOO!!! So i roped in my colleagues for the order and the response is overwhelming!!! I have like $450+ worth of order and this scare the baker for a second. In the end, she agreed to do it with 2 days deliveries. Everyone are clever enough to order an extra box for themselves, including me!!
Like what are shown in her blog, the cuppies arrived beautifully decorated and WARM! I'm so tempted to eat it straightaway but...hv to keep for my 2 babies at home. Endure..Endure, patient!!!

My order - 3 Varlhona Choc & 2 Matcha Greentea cuppies
Beautiful right?? So sayang to eat them

Slowly savouring it

Charity Food & Art Fair

My company will organise a food and art fair annually in support of Children Aid Society. I believed ours is the only firm that does such charity event held in our office here. This not only allows the staffs to show off their culinary/artistic talent but raising funds at the same time. Angela and me decided to join in the fun this year and since i can't bake or cook well, i decided to make the kueh that i'm capable of - Kueh Koh Swee and Sago Gula Melaka.
One is foolproof and the other is tasted and tested and we roped in Siti and she agreed to make Mee Soto. Bingo!!!! A stall is formed! I spent almost 10 hours (till 2am) to prepare the kueh all alone since i think it'll work faster this way with no interruption. The most tedious will be the sago since i have to sieve and drain the excess starch in order to have a nice texture of the sago pearls. Arms aching, back strain and sleep lacking but all in the name of charity.
Sigh, one hiccup occurred along the way. My 35 pkts of Kueh Koh Swee have to be sacrificed because of the stupid grated coconut, by the time i reached office, the kueh turned bad. BAH...BAH....All my hard work have gone down the drain. Well, i guess i learned my mistake in mixing the grated coconut the nite before. it's ok, that's always next year!!!
Its was fun doing this, not only we learned teamwork, we also learned to show our marketing skills. Most of our food items are sold within 30 mins, except the kacang which is a bit slower than the rest. One generous partner bought all my remainder 27 cups of sago for her staffs and by that time, we are only left with 4 bowls of mee soto to clear. We closed our stall 10 mins later. Singapore is full of food gluttons!! hahaha...
